Elisabeth Kley

For my sound piece I created a piece inspired by Elisabeth Kley and her incredibly detailed 

but delicate sculptures. The negative space incorporated into each piece offers a sense of delicate stability. The structures are created from a fired earth element - red clay - however appear to be as light as a feather. This delicate appearance was something I wanted to flow throughout my sound piece. As I was working on the piece I became very musically inspired by the fluidity of the structure. 

To complement this style I had a musician friend of mine created a piece of music that he was inspired to make after viewing this piece. This piece he created musically illustrated the sound piece in a beautiful way. The highs and lows of the custom music inspire the viewer to move their eyes throughout the piece.

Speech Patterns Music

My friend who created the sound piece music is from a band called Speech Patterns.

It's a rock band that creates emotionally charged ballads that shake the listener. Their edgy style is was drew me to collaborate with them. I was intrigued by their edge style mixing with such a delicate ceramic piece. They are a young band that is looking to grow and receive recognition. I am a young artist who is looking to do the same. Creating music is a hobby for the group but they hope to go full time with it. Collaborating on a fine art level will be an intriguing line on their resume that will express their openess for exploration in the world of music.

Ceramic Minimalism Article 

The art of modern ceramics is explored in this article. Ceramics have gone through various changes of being functional to evolving into being functional art in modern day. The duality of clay is what make it a beautiful medium to work with. The article describes clays ever evolving role in the artistic realm and in our modern world. Over thousands of years ceramic art has continued to ebb and flow with the changing times. This fluidity is what makes this medium so attractive to artists throughout thousands of years. 

Artist Statement - Ceramics

My fifty pieces and sound project were a visual representation of my personal exploration of the clay medium over the past four months. One can view multiple mini collections that transpired throughout my exploration. One being the dynamic oval wall hangings. These forms took on a personality of their own. They pair together in a set of 13 that when hanging complement each other as a whole. With these form I explored simple smoothness paired with thick texture. This texture was received well and heightened with contrasting glaze. My style throughout the fifty pieces is modern minimalism with an edge.

2D to 3D Piece

Statement:

For my 2D to 3D piece I wanted to create an overall pattern with the geometric figures I created from the wall map relief installation. I wanted it to be a concise 2D piece. I love geometric patterns and having them fill the whole space was key. I could see this being used as a background image or wall poster. The simple and clean all black and white pattern was what I was going for as well. Overall a wonderful 2D composition is created.

Materials: tracing paper, water

Statement:

I created the boob by wetting tracing paper and forming the shape in my hands. I then let the piece dry out in my car for several days to soak up the moisture. 

I created this moment piece to represent a single breast. The boob was to represent my moms battle with breast cancer. She was diagnosed my sophomore year of high school and ended up having to fight for her life. I create the "ideal" boob which is what normal women every day complain about. Women never seem to be happy with the size, shape, form, or overall appearance of their boobs. It is something most women take for granted. Whereas women who are battling breast cancer have their female parts taken from them without any say. These women who are fighting the disease only crave to be normal and have the "ideal" boob, where they see them as a treasure, and regular women take them for granted.
